The tomato variety Nastenka is quite popular in Russia and the CIS. It belongs to an early maturing variety, a standard determinant plant. And this suggests that you can grow tomatoes all year round (in the open field and in a greenhouse).

General characteristics of the variety
The breeding of this hybrid began in 2008, but the variety was officially registered in 2012. Nastenka easily adapts to all temperature conditions, has excellent indicators of taste and juiciness. Used for the preparation of salads and juices, canning.
The appearance of the bushes
The top of the bush is not pinched, since after the appearance of brushes of flowers, the growth of the stem stops. The bush has a size of 50 to 70 cm in height, is distinguished by foliage and stockiness. The side parts of the shrub do not have many shoots, the leaf part is bright green, small and slightly corrugated.
Each inflorescence has no more than 5 flowers. The fruit cluster is formed on 6-7 leaves, the rest of the clusters have a maximum gap of 2 leaves.
The variety is distinguished by the power of the stem, but the fruits are large and heavy. Therefore, a tie to the support is required.
Fruit characteristics
The fruits have sweet pulp (3.35% sugar per 100 grams), dense structure, and a red tint. The shape is rounded, slightly elongated, the number of chambers is from 4 to 6.
The minimum weight of one fruit is 150 grams, the largest is 200. But tomatoes growing in the lowest inflorescence can reach up to 250 grams.
Ripening terms
Nastenka fully matures in about 100 days. During this period, you can harvest. But the primary fruits are ready for consumption much earlier, since ripening occurs gradually.
Yield
If the plant is planted in protected ground, then the yield is up to 12 kilograms per 1 sq. m. When grown in open soil from 1 bush, you can collect up to 2 kg of fruits, that is, 1 square. m only 8 kg.
Planting, growing and care
If we consider agricultural technology, then it is quite traditional and simple, but top dressing is required to increase yields. A wide range of fertilizers can be used for this:
- ash;
- iodine;
- organic;
- boric acid;
- ammonia alcohol;
- hydrogen peroxide;
- yeast.
Planting seedlings
The Nastenka variety is grown in any way, but it is recommended even in the South to first grow seedlings. There are the following rules:
- The timing of planting seeds for seedlings is the end of February - the beginning of March. The seeds need to be prepared (germinated). The preparation consists of several stages: checking for germination, disinfection, heating and hardening. Read more about how to germinate tomato seeds here.
- The capacity is shallow.
- The soil is purchased, processed. If you use your own soil, then there is a need to disinfect it with a manganese solution or frying.
- Before placing the seeds, the soil needs to be moistened and compacted.
- Planting depth of seeds - maximum 1 cm.
- Further, the containers are covered with polyethylene or glass, which will maintain the necessary humidity. The temperature inside should be 23-25 degrees.
- When the first shoots appear, the film must be removed. The temperature should now not exceed 16 degrees. So the sprouts should stand for 7 days, after which the temperature regime increases to a maximum of +22 degrees.
- Water the soil with slightly warm water.
- Diving of seedlings is carried out after the formation of 1 or 2 leaves. For this, separate pots or glasses are used. Their volume should be 8x8 cm.
- Seedlings are provided with sufficient lighting.
In order for the lateral rhizomes to grow, it is necessary to pinch one root when transplanting into separate containers.
Greenhouse landing
After about 2 months, the seedlings are transplanted into a greenhouse (in the southern regions, they can be directly into the open ground). The seedlings must have at least 6 leaves and at least 1 cluster of flowers.
In greenhouse conditions, the plants are poorly ventilated, so the seedlings are planted at a distance of 45 cm from each other.At least 60 cm should remain between the rows.
Open ground transplant
The bushes are transferred to the garden only under favorable weather conditions, when there is no frost. Depending on the region, this could be April or even June.
You need to adhere to the following landing rules:
- Before taking the seedlings outside, it is necessary to periodically open the greenhouse to further adapt the plants to the outdoor conditions. Initially, the temperature drops for a couple of hours, then the time gradually increases.
- Outdoor soil is prepared in the fall. For this, the top layer is removed, after which the compost is digged and laid. It is desirable that beans, beets or cabbage grow there earlier. The availability of sunlight is taken into account (Nastenka loves warmth and a lot of light).
- Planting scheme - 40x50 cm.
- The depth of the hole is 20 cm.
- Watering is carried out immediately after the transplant.
- In the first 7-10 days, it is recommended to cover the seedlings with a film at night.
Watering activities
Watering Nastenka should be moderate. If there is not enough moisture, inflorescences begin to crumble and leaves curl. If there is too much moisture, then the roots rot and the risk of plant diseases increases.
Watering rules:
- The water should not be cold. It is desirable to defend it in containers.
- Watering should be done carefully so that water does not get on the leaf and root parts.
- The procedure is performed in the evening or early morning hours.
- Until inflorescences appear in large quantities, the water consumption per bush should be 2 liters. Number of waterings per week - 2 times.
- When the inflorescences are fully formed, the amount of water increases (5 liters per bush).
- When green fruits appear, 3 liters of water is enough, but watering is carried out after 4 days.
- With fruiting and redness, moisture is applied once a week.
- After each procedure, it is necessary to huddle the trunks and loosen the soil.
Plant fertilization
The first feeding begins with seedlings, and the next is done a week after transplanting into the garden. Feeding recommendations:
- A phosphoric solution is introduced initially. It is simple to prepare it: for 10 liters of water you need 30 grams of superphosphate. Filling is carried out at the very root. This is necessary for the strength of the bushes.
- After a decade, potassium is added to improve the taste of the fruit. Potassium sulfate is diluted in water in the same way as superphosphate. Fertilizer is applied along with watering the tomatoes.
- When flowering, the leafy part is sprayed with a boric acid solution. To do this, you need to take 5 grams of the substance for 5 liters of liquid.
- If you want to use ash instead of minerals, then prepare it in the following way: put it in the ground under bushes or prepare an infusion (for 3 kg of wood ash you need 5 liters of water). In the second case, leave the mixture for 24 hours to infuse, then add another 5 liters of water and water the bushes.
Diseases and pests
Nastenka is quite resistant to diseases, but she is afraid of the following pests:
- Spider mite. To prevent insects from attacking, you need to spray the bushes with soapy water.
- Whitefly aphid. The drug Confidor is used against it.
- Slugs. To get rid of them, it is enough to sprinkle the ash with ground red pepper.
Nastenka's frequent problem is the cracking of tomatoes. To avoid this, it is necessary to adhere to the correct soil moisture regime.
How to harvest and store crops?
Collection rules:
- Tomatoes are harvested of various maturity. For example, if you need fruits for conservation and long-term storage, then ripeness should be blange. If tomatoes are needed for making salads and preserving juices, then they are plucked perfectly ripe. Thanks to this opportunity, yields are increased.
- Final cleaning should be carried out at a minimum temperature of + 7-8 degrees at night. The fact is that too low temperatures have a negative effect on the fruits, which makes it impossible to preserve them.
Storage rules:
- Tomatoes are carefully examined for damage before being placed in a container. The fruits should be free of spots, blotches and other things.
- It is undesirable to pluck the stalk - so the tomatoes will be stored longer.
- Packaging - wooden boxes equipped with breathable material.
- The maximum temperature is 23 degrees.
- Air humidity - 85%.
- The room is dark and dry. A ventilation system must be installed.

Gardeners reviews
Nina, 42 years old. Nastenka was advised to me by a neighbor. She has been growing it for many years. In the first year, of course, I suffered with seedlings, but then I adapted. Now I have been growing the variety for 4 years already and I always get the expected harvest. The only thing that is upsetting is when the summer is too rainy, the tomatoes disappear. They do not like high humidity.
Stanislav, 54 years old. Delicious and unpretentious variety. I decided to try it after I bought it on the market. Despite the early ripening, the fruits are quite good, tender and juicy. Especially tasty in the form of salads (let a lot of juice). And we can also preserve it, in winter it is also delicious. The aroma is pleasant, the appearance is also. Stored under appropriate conditions for 3 months.
Marina, 27 years old. I am a beginner vegetable grower, so it is important for me that vegetables are unpretentious. That's what I liked about Nastenka, so that you don't need to pinch. The trunk is very powerful, there are many fruits on one bush. But I still tie each bush to wooden pegs, so it's safer.
